Single parent Debbie got to a stage in her life where she questioned what she wanted to do with the rest of her life.
‘Fostering was something I always wanted to do but I didn’t think I could as I didn’t have a spare room.’
After a lot of research, Debbie realised that she could become a carer for babies in Cardiff without a spare room, so she got in touch with Foster Wales Cardiff and began her fostering journey.
‘I love being a foster carer so much and my son loves being part of a fostering family, we work as a team. He was 9 when we started fostering, he is wonderful, brought up with a caring attitude but he’s a credit to everyone. When a child moves on, we take a little break and go on holidays and then wait for the next baby to come our way.’
Debbie’s biggest achievements have been seeing the babies progress and develop whilst in her care. Her advice to anyone thinking of fostering is:
‘Do your research, speak to the team, it is not always easy, but it is the best decision I have ever made. I am incredibly proud of the babies I have had in my home and feel incredibly lucky to be in the privileged position to be a foster carer.’
